Since late October, cold temperatures and successive rainfall have led to the first snowfall of the season in the Northern Alps.

This Thursday, November 20, snowflakes fell from a height of 500 meters above sea level, covering most of the Isère, Savoie and Haute-Savoie regions, and giving ski fans a beautiful glimpse of the coming winter.

In Isère, several regions have shared the first images of the return of white. In Chamrousse, for example, this Thursday, ten centimeters of fresh snow was recorded at an altitude of 1,650 meters, flakes of which were greeted with enthusiasm by the station which shared several images on its Facebook page.

Lans-en-Vercors also woke up to snow this Thursday. The night was marked by a continuous fall of water until mid-morning, covering the village and the plateau with about ten centimeters of white gold.

The same winter scene a few kilometers away, at Villard-de-Lans: favorable conditions for ski waxing that prompted the resort to move its area opening date forward by two weeks. Originally scheduled for Saturday 13 December, the ski lift launch will take place on Saturday 29 November 2025.

In Savoie, the same weather conditions allowed the relief workers to also wear their first winter clothes. The first image shows the actual beginning of the transition to winter.

In Val Thorens, the significant cooling observed over the last few days was greeted with satisfaction. Moreover, ski areas will open this weekend, as in Tignes, officially launching winter in the Alps.

The first snowflakes also fell in Haute-Savoie in the last hours, as in Grand-Bornand.

At Contamines-Montjoie, images taken by drone from the bottom of the Montjoie piste show areas already covered in white.
