The Düsseldorf Christmas Market attracts visitors with seven themed worlds and new culinary delights. Mulled wine is sometimes available for four euros.
34 days before Christmas Eve, seven “themed world” Christmas markets opened on Thursday morning in Düsseldorf city center. Several million visitors from home and abroad are expected to return to the NRW state capital this year – to stroll around, buy Christmas gifts and drink a wine or two.
Last year, more than a million visitors came to the Roncalli Christmas promenade along the Rhine alone. The area is unchanged compared to the premiere in 2024, as are the prices of mulled wine. A cup is still available here for 4.50 euros.
What’s new in this year’s Christmas celebrations, among other things, are two gastronomic dishes. Sissi Couvee and her team at the duck roaster offer a “gourmet roll” with sliced duck breast in a roll (slathered with lettuce and cranberry or spicy mayo) for ten euros. A whole duck breast with red cabbage, dumplings and homemade sauce costs 21.50 euros.
“Bordstein-Schwalbe” has made a special offer for the Christmas market. The burger maker from Korschenbroich is offering a “Xmas Raclette” burger. It costs 13.50 euros and consists of cured and smoked beef, raclette cheese, apple and red cabbage, fried onions, lamb’s lettuce and plum chutney with homemade mayo. For them, this is a first on the Christmas promenade.
As Christmas markets approach, it is feared the price of a cup of wine will reach five euros almost everywhere this year. The price of 4.50 euros on the Roncalli Christmas promenade is no exception, as traders also take this course at the crafts market on the market square in front of the town hall. However, if you go from here via Flinger Straße and the old town market there towards Kö and order a cup from the famous wine pyramid, you will have to pay five euros.
A cup of wine also costs five euros at the new Winter Village in Königsallee. If you want something a little more sophisticated on Düsseldorf’s most famous street, you can also treat yourself to a magnum bottle of champagne for up to 229 euros.
