The mother’s body had been hidden in the house for three years, mummified, to continue receiving her pension. And when the deceased’s identity card expired, he appeared at the civil registry office disguised as a woman to ask for an extension. However, the wig and outfit that was supposed to make her look like her mother didn’t fool the staff, who then called local police to take action. The man, a 57-year-old nurse from Mantua, is now under extensive investigation.
Mantua prosecutors accused him of hiding corpses, impersonation, INPS fraud and ideological falsification. Based on what has been reconstructed so far, the old woman’s death due to natural causes occurred in 2022. Her son, who lived alone in the open countryside, said nothing to continue collecting his pension. Everything was going smoothly until a few days ago, the man realized that his mother’s identity document had expired and, in order to continue receiving pension credits to his mother’s checking account, he had to renew it.
That’s when he thought about dressing up as a woman, complete with make-up and a wig to resemble his mother, and then showing up at the City Hall registry office. The employee immediately agreed that he was dealing with a man, and not an old woman, and, with some excuse, invited him to come to the counter the next day. This time the local police officers were waiting for him. After being unmasked, the man fell ill.
The horrific discovery of the elderly mother’s body occurred during an inspection at the 57 year old man’s house. In the living room, leaning against the wall, was the mummified body of the old woman. According to investigators, the nurse used the medical knowledge gained during her profession to remove fluid from the corpse to start the mummification process, thereby avoiding decomposition of the corpse.
Little was known in the village, for three years no one noticed anything. Now an autopsy examination will be carried out, where the woman’s body will be examined, collected again in the mortuary of the Carlo Poma hospital in Mantua, to determine the cause of death of the old woman and the exact date of her death.
