Donald Trump accused six members of the US Democratic Party of treason and called for their execution. The reason was their criticism of the controversial military deployment order.

Donald Trump called for the execution of six Democratic politicians on his own social network, Truth Social. In a video, the Democratic Party asked members of the military and security forces to reject unlawful orders. He later called Trump a “traitor” in a post and shared a post in which another user demanded: “Hang him!” Moments later, he wrote in his new post: “INCORRECT BEHAVIOR, carries the DEATH PENALTY.”

The chairman of the Democratic Party caucus in the DPR, Hakeem Jeffries, asked Trump to immediately delete the post. Gavin Newsom, the Democratic governor of California, called Trump a “headache” in X.

Democratic Senators Mark Kelly of Arizona and Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, as well as Representatives Maggie Goodlander (New Hampshire), Jason Crow (Connecticut), Chris Deluzio (Pennsylvania) and Chrissy Houlahan (Pennsylvania) have all served in various parts of the military or security agencies.

“This administration is pitting our uniformed military officers and intelligence professionals against American citizens,” the video said. However, soldiers and security personnel are sworn to protect the US Constitution and therefore can refuse unlawful orders.

In interviews, members of Congress cited examples of the use of troops against demonstrators, as Trump ordered in Los Angeles, or the killing of suspected drug traffickers from Latin America. According to the UN, this is contrary to international law.

In an interview with Fox News, Crow, a former Army Ranger, said: “Donald Trump has made a series of deeply troubling statements and proposals that would violate U.S. law and put our military in a bad light.” He added: “I don’t want to wait until this happens to remind our troops of this commitment, because then it will be too late.”

The president’s deputy chief of staff in the White House, Stephen Miller, accused Democrats of “openly calling for a coup.” Other Republicans also strongly criticized the video. Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn said in an interview with Fox News: “It is inconceivable that elected officials would tell service members in uniform who have taken an oath to refuse orders given to them to carry out their mission.”

In fact, members of the US armed forces are only required to follow lawful orders. This is referenced in the Uniform Code of Military Justice, the central military criminal law of the United States. If soldiers follow orders that may violate applicable law, this may result in criminal consequences for them. According to current legal opinion, receiving orders is not considered sufficient grounds – a defense strategy known colloquially as the “Nuremberg Defense”, which refers to the trials of Nazi leaders after World War II.
