The two-hour summit at the Palazzo Chigi was to review the “adjustments”, but a new meeting will be needed next week to seal the deal on a vote on the amendments. Many issues were at the center of the discussion, from the cancellation of the short-term rental tax increase to the new tax on company dividends, which have been added in the last hours, from the amnesty proposed by the Fratelli d’Italia to the cut of Rai’s license fee to 70 euros, supported by the League, and included in the amendment file at the last minute.
After the Council of Ministers, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reunited the majority. We need to tighten maneuvers designed to be prudently oriented in the field of public finances, to return to the parameters of a debt-to-GDP ratio of 3% and exit the violation procedure, with few and targeted measures for the middle class and the business world. But the proposed changes are increasingly spreading. The meeting, defined as “profitable and constructive”, was attended by Antonio Tajani, Matteo Salvini via video link from Puglia, Noi Moderati leader Maurizio Lupi, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti and deputy minister Maurizio Leo, as well as Senate leaders.
During the summit, Palazzo Chigi said in a brief note, the majority continued to make “adjustments” related “also to the topics discussed in recent days, including: short-term rentals, the extension of hyper-depreciation, the tax regime on dividends, the extension of the ISEE exemption on first homes, and measures to encourage the emergence of gold from investments”. But the final meeting is scheduled for next week, taking into account the proposals that have emerged and the Government is continuing its in-depth analysis”. On the table are the amendments presented by the groups but also other solutions that could come up through reformulation or amendments from the speakers. The Fratelli d’Italia aims to change the IRAP in banks, with a 2.5-point increase limited to large institutions to restore revenues. For the League, the party announced at the end of the summit, it is “urgent to increase security with new employees among the police and military. The aim is to monitor cities in a more effective way”. It was the MEF that put the brakes on rumors about possible changes, which it defined as “unfounded”.
