«He has requested access to employee emails»

New surprise inside Privacy Guarantee. Following the refusal to leave his post by members of the college following requests for resignation from various parties following the Report’s investigation, the figure at the top of the Authority’s administrative machine, the secretary general, took a step back Angelo Fanizza. The choice to leave office occurred in the evening, at the end of a busy day, marked by a workers’ meeting that unanimously called for the resignation of the entire university staff. The appointment of Fanizza, judge at TAR Lazio and PhD in public economic law, holder of a teaching position at the University of Bari for many years, was communicated by the Guarantor recently, on October 10. He should remain in office until the end of the university’s mandate period on July 29 2027.

What has happened

Fanizza has not publicly confirmed his resignation, but it is clear that the heated climate of recent weeks has become heated following the clear stance taken by employees. This morning – as Wired anticipated – a workers’ meeting was held which unanimously called on the college to resign. The request is non-binding, but was made after being submitted by the Democratic Party and the 5 Star Movement, as well as by several sectors of the majority. The four members, president Pasquale Stanzione, deputies Ginevra Cerrina Feroni, Agostino Ghiglia and Guido Scorza, remained firm in their opinions, rejecting any hypothesis of decline and claiming their autonomy and independence from political power. The Guarantor controversy arose from the Report’s accusations of current members having close ties to politics and conflicts of interest. Firstly, Agostino Ghiglia was targeted because of his ties to FdI, which was reportedly linked to a fine imposed by Guarantor on the broadcast after broadcasting an audio clip between former minister Gennaro Sangiuliano and his wife. Then also Scorza, who was appointed by M5S, for his role as a former partner at the law firm E-Lex which he founded in 2011. A dozen public and private companies assisted by the firm will be affected by the action filed with the Authority. President Pasquale Stanzione was also involved in the investigation of Rai3 broadcasts, in particular for relations with the family of lawyer Sangiuliano Sica, but also with Link Campus University. In general, the entire management came under fire for expenses deemed unjustified. “Even when internal staff report opaqueness, conflicts of interest and management unable to protect the institution’s credibility, the only sensible response is to take a step back,” said Dario Carotenuto, head of the M5S group at the Rai monitoring commission. “What still needs to be done to convince the University to take a step back and save what remains of the prestige of this important institution?” asked Alleanza Verdi Sinistra with Elisabetta Piccolotti.

Report: Fanizza was asked to spy on employee emails

«A few hours ago a confidential document was made public within the Authority in which Secretary General Angelo Fanizza asked IT department managers to immediately organize email extraction, VPN access, access to shared folders, shared network spaces, document systems and security systems. Fanizza’s request to spy on Authority workers began on November 4, two days after the first episode of the Report’s investigation.” Report wrote on Facebook, thus motivating Fanizza’s resignation. «According to what was reported by internal sources – explained the broadcast post -, today the IT security department manager informed the employees and denounced the illegality of this request. Privacy Assurance workers have called for the resignation of the entire Board.”
