The Champions League final will return to TF 1… in 2028

This is one of the great sporting events on television. The Champions League final is an event that is synonymous with high audiences for the broadcasters. Last season’s duel between PSG and Inter Milan, ending with the Parisian club’s historic victory, attracted 11.8 million football fans, including 8.67 million people on M 6 which broadcast the C1 final for the first time… but that was almost over for the “up-and-coming little channel”.

According to information from L’Équipe that we can confirm, the Big Ear Cup final will soon return to TF 1. More precisely, starting in spring 2028. The channel has acquired the rights for the period 2027-2031.

If Canal + retains, this Thursday, the full TV rights for all European Cups on French territory for the period 2027-2031, the encrypted channel will have to share the broadcast of the Champions League final with the free-to-air channels.

Obligation to broadcast unencrypted

The law requires “sporting events of particular importance in France” to be broadcast unencrypted on French television. Among the 28 major events, the Champions League final is clearly one of them.

According to L’Équipe, TF 1, which is the historical broadcaster of this event in France, will pay less than 2 million euros to re-propose this poster to its viewers. In the meantime and until 2027 (i.e. the final two), the final will be broadcast on M 6.
