Frida Kahlo’s painting is the most expensive painting by a woman sold at public auction

Frida Kahlo is still popular among painting lovers and collectors. The Mexican artist’s self-portrait sold for $54.66 million on Thursday, November 20 at Sotheby’s auction in New York, becoming the most expensive painting by a woman. The work entitled “The Dream (The Room)” beats the previous record in this field, set by a painting by American Georgia O’Keeffe which achieved a sum of 44.4 million dollars in 2014.

That job “painted in 1940, during a crucial decade of his career, marked by his tumultuous relationship with Diego Rivera”, Mexican painter, details the auction house on his X account. The name of the buyer has not been revealed.
