It comes out tonight.”CremoniniLIVE25“, testimony of three live albums from Cesare Cremonini’s final tour of 13 Italian stadiums, launched with the single”Easy Girl“, where his friend was in the choir Elisa. In his track list there is no shortage of collaborations like his Elisa in “Aurore Boreali”, Luca Carboni with “San Luca” and “Mare Mare”, Jovanotti, for the first time duet with “The World” and in “The Navel of the World”. We met the singer-songwriter backstage before meeting in Milan Music Weekmoderated by Andrea Scanziat the Piccolo Teatro in Milan.
“Regardless of how many records you sell, apart from live recordings, it’s not like you’re making musical history – he later stated talking about a live recording project – but it’s a testimony that stays with you as time goes by. It’s something that’s done well and that’s why we pay a lot of attention to this project. It’s a live performance that offers a reflection especially in the Italian musical context that we have. There’s a lot of collaboration, there’s similarities between the songs I play live and those recorded in the studio”
Talking about Jovanotti’s new album, you wrote: “I don’t care about appeal and what people tell you is a matter of taste.” What do you mean?
I don’t like the word taste, it reminds me of ice cream… When I was little I picked up the smurf flavour, but I don’t think music can really be fully described through the idea of ’de gustibus’. Then, of course, de gustibus is valid, but it is also not to your taste because perhaps the language is not appreciated by you culturally, perhaps even for reasons of age.
But it’s a strong statement, isn’t it?
It’s not complete to write music just like that, that’s an important factor, but it’s not complete because music has language. We can’t say that German isn’t worth it just because we don’t like it. What I want to say is that what I write is a tribute to freedom because music is more than that. Music is not free.
Why?
Because this is increasingly becoming a business. The enjoyment of music has influenced many models and my generation is Lorenzo (Jovanotti, ed), artists who are lucky enough to have status. The time has come when those who have the wealth we have, above all offer the freedom to make records according to personal pleasure… Making discoveries, even launching personal challenges such as playing the saxophone on stage with Luca Carboni for “Mare Mare”.
Is music a positive health condition?
The circle has closed. The words business and music are put together in such a way that, in my opinion, they are very related. It’s a slot machine that rewards discographies from an economic standpoint, of course, but I think it comes down to the responsibility of the personal choices we have to make every day. We are free to do so, but we must remember that there is a human path as well as an artistic path.
What is your current state of mind?
Basically I’m not happy. I had eternal dissatisfaction with myself, but dreams and music managed to make me sew something inside and that’s why I always like to think about new projects. The new concert that I will do in 2026 also gives me a lot of encouragement with the challenge of doing things that I have never done, like I did in the last live concert.
The next immediate commitments are 4 major events: Circus Maximus in Rome (6 June), SNAI La Maura Hippodrome in Milan (10 June), Imola Enzo e Dino Ferrari – Music Park Arena (13 June), Visarno Arena in Florence (17 June).
