A rally of support of around 150 people was held this Friday morning in front of the public kindergarten school Clôteaux, in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine). One of the teachers, who is also the director of an institution in the south of the city, was threatened by a family who refused to let their little girl be supervised by a man.
The teacher filed a complaint on October 14 “for acts of threats to kill since October 10,” the public prosecutor, Frédéric Teillet, said on Thursday. The rectorate also filed a complaint. According to union sources, the family would not tolerate the teacher accompanying the little girl to the toilet.
“A school where everything goes well”
“We only criticized the colleague for being a man and supervising small children,” complained Mickaël Bézard, secretary of the Force Ouvrière union department for schools in Ille-et-Vilaine, who was present in front of the school. “There is no religious aspect behind all this” emphasized Fabrice Lerestif, secretary general of FO Ille-et-Vilaine, repeating the words of the Minister of Education, Édouard Geffray, on the sidelines of Thursday’s trip to Villeurbanne (Rhône).
About 150 people, including teachers from neighboring schools and about thirty parents, were present in front of the school which was closed for the day. “Support for our colleagues”, “Parents unite! Full respect and support for our teachers,” read two signs hanging on the gate.

Among the parents, Pierre Yacger, came with his children to support the educational team “in which we have complete confidence”. As for directors, “we’ve never had negative feedback,” he says. Surprised, the teacher was no longer working. He was “hurt by a situation” that “had a strong impact on the whole school”, “a school where everything was going well”, said Mickaël Bézard. The teaching staff asked that the little girl who was still studying at this school change her attitude, “so that she can also find a peaceful climate”, he continued.
“This child, perhaps, will be educated elsewhere,” estimates Gaëlle Rougier, an education assistant in the city of Rennes. “We have to continue mediation with the family,” he added.
