“Japan must immediately withdraw the wrong statement” – Il Tempo

Milan, November 21 (askanews) – Beijing attacked Tokyo and called on the Japanese government to “immediately withdraw erroneous statements” about Taiwan. The response came after words from Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who reiterated that Japan’s position on the island “remains unchanged”.

According to China, these statements indicate the possibility of Japanese military intervention in the Strait, thereby fueling tensions between the two Asian powers.

If Japan truly wants to develop constructive relations with China, it must honor its commitments, immediately withdraw its false statements, and demonstrate this with concrete actions.

From Tokyo, Prime Minister Takaichi stressed the line of continuity and called for “constructive and stable” relations with China.

“Late last month, President Xi and I reaffirmed the goal of strengthening our ties and building a constructive and stable relationship. The government’s position on Taiwan remains unchanged.”

The diplomatic confrontation comes as Tokyo launches a maximalist economic plan and reasserts its security policies in an increasingly tense regional context.
