Pogba returns to the pitch after being disqualified for doping

After nineteen months it stopped Paul Pogba return to the field. The 32-year-old Frenchman was due to serve a four-year ban for doping, but his sentence was significantly reduced by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas). Midfielder from MonkTherefore, he is ready to return to the field in an official match.

The former Juventus man could be called up for the away game at Rennes on Saturday, said coach Sébastien Pocognoli. Pogba joined Monaco (Ligue 1) last summer after his suspension was reduced. “For Paul, there is another session today, then we will carry out an evaluation,” explained the coach. “He was able to test himself in real match conditions. We had more time during this break to work on different tactical aspects and game plans. He participated, which is a good sign.”

The last time the Frenchman took to the field was in September 2023, when he played against Empoli in a Juventus shirt. To be honest, he was already called up last November 8, for the match against Lens, but an ankle injury caused a new minor stoppage.

Pogba was banned for four years after testing positive dehydroepiandrosterone (steroid hormones) in February 2024, after a doping test in August 2023. He defended himself by saying that it was a mistake and that he had been given supplements without knowing that they contained banned substances. But for him came the disqualification, which was reduced last March, when he was allowed to play again.

It can still be useful

The field will do the talking.

For now we limit ourselves to Monaco coach Pocognoli’s reported statement: “A player like Paul has to say something: to the club, to the young players, to the fans. If used well, his aura can make a difference.”
