The ISEE deadline scheduled for December 31 opens a decisive phase for those receiving single benefits. The start of 2026 requires an update to the DSU so that the numbers continue to reflect the actual economic situation of households. Without the new indicator, starting in March the disbursement will no longer be taken into account income range and will be recognized at a minimum value, equivalent to approximately 58 euros according to the revaluation forecast for next year. The need to urgently update ISEE becomes increasingly relevant as a result changes introduced by maneuverswhich intervenes in several structural elements of the indicator, with potential impact on an estimated audience of 2.6 million children.
What happens from February to June
The compliance schedule revolves around two key moments. The first is February 28: those who have submitted a new DSU by that date will continue received the full amount of the check in March. However, starting March 1, for those who have not yet updated their ISEE, the minimum score will automatically apply. However, there is still time until June 30: families who submit declarations by that date will receive a recalibration of the amounts due and related arrears starting in March.
How to get a new ISEE
Indicator updates can be performed via pre-compiled DSUs, available on the single Isee portal, which integrates all methods for obtaining indicators. The same procedure can also be carried out via the INPS Mobile application, thanks to the “Get declaration” function. allows you to send pre-prepared Mini DSUs with tax and property data registered with INPS and the Revenue Agency. However, DSU Mini cannot be used if there are people with disabilities or unable to be independent in the household, if a university allowance is requested, if there are children from parents who do not live together or are married, or if there is a tax exemption or there is no Single Certification. Access is permitted exclusively with Spid credentials or an Electronic Identity Card.
Data used to calculate indicators
The ISEE system is based on a balance between previously collected information, elements that citizens must make themselves public, and data already existing in public archives that can be preloaded. The previously collected data includes income, expenses communicated to the Revenue Agency and the treatment provided by INPS, as well as movable assets and real estate held in Italy, with some exceptions such as unregistered shareholdings or values related to individual businesses. Some information, such as members’ personal data, certain types of income, periodic inspections, registered vehicles, defective conditions or assets stored abroad, requires direct intervention by the declarant. Additional data, such as the composition of the family unit or residence, can be preloaded based on information already available in the archive.
How the calculation changes in 2026
The budget law intervenes in two main aspects of this indicator: the equality scale and the weight of home ownership in the asset component. They come for families with children New improvements introducedwith increasing coefficients for families with two, three, four and at least five children. On the assets side, the deduction relating to the main residence was increased from 52,500 to 91,500 euros, while an increase of 2,500 euros per child it is already activated from the second one. According to analysis by the Parliamentary Budget Office, this change will have a direct impact on the indicator: with the same income and assets, many households will have a lower ISEE.
This redesign, in addition to changing the economic picture of families, will also lead to an increase in the number of people who have access to subsidized benefits and, for those who already benefit from such benefits, a possible increase in the number recognized.
