“He destroyed everything,” said one witness. This Tuesday, a frightened wild boar entered the center of the botanical garden in Thonon-les-Bains (Haute-Savoie), destroying the entrance in its path, several local media reported.
“A young man saw him going up to Dranse (river that flows into Lake Geneva) and then ran into the Shopping Léman parking lot,” a store employee told Dauphiné Libéré. ”The animal really panicked, it destroyed everything, starting from the front door,” added one of his colleagues, who described its “good size.” The wild boar weighed about sixty kilograms.
The store was closed and customers were evacuated. Police officers and firefighters were sent to the scene to secure the scene, demarcating a security perimeter. “We were very scared inside the shop, but we were immediately evacuated to our cars,” one customer told L’Essor savoyard.
“He really can’t be controlled”
The wild boar was shot by forest guards. “We didn’t want to kill him, we first tried to catch him with a lasso, but already wounded by broken glass, he was completely uncontrollable. Wounded by my first shot, I finally killed him with a second shot,” he explained to Dauphiné Libéré. The animal’s body was then transported to the Aigles du Léman animal park, where it will be used as food for birds of prey, France 3 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes said.
