One stated that he was “distant” and that he did not participate in what he believed to be “just a fight”, while another adult said that he did not think he had “hit him like that” with a knife and that he came later, while the first to attack him were three minors.
The latter, for his part, tried to claim that they were limited to beatings, without being involved in attempted murder.
Shifting responsibility in interrogation, the five boys arrested for having been reduced to death for 50 euros in the Corso Como area of Milan, a 22-year-old Bocconi student, who was at risk of becoming paralyzed, confessed what happened on October 12. However, they tried to defend themselves against the serious charges they both have: aggravated robbery and attempted murder.
“I never saw him again, I didn’t think I had hit him like that. I walked around with a knife, because I had been attacked in the past”, is the version essentially given in San Vittore prison by the 18-year-old who inflicted two stab wounds. He also, defended by lawyer Giovanni Giovanetti, as well as other adults accused of acting as lookouts and assisted by lawyer Elena Patrucchi, said he was “deeply sorry” and “concerned” about the victims of the attack.
In practice, both say that they regret what they did and what happened, but in the process it is necessary to evaluate how sincere this awareness really is. But what emerges from the report is an abdication of responsibility, as the two 18-year-olds explained that the first to create the “fight” and beat the student, with kicks and punches, were the three 17-year-olds. The young man who was the “supervisor” and intended to write a letter to the 22 year old man and his family, admitted that he always kept his distance and did not know that his friend was holding a knife and hit him with it. However, the latter admitted that they had intervened when chaos had begun to occur. And he didn’t think he hit her like that. Basically, a move to make attempted murder an injury charge.
For other positions, including minors, the defense will seek to eliminate the moral contest in the attempted murder. The two adult defense teams asked investigating judge Chiara Valori to soften the measures, ranging from prison to house arrest. The judge will make a decision in the next few days following prosecutor Andrea Zanoncelli’s opinion in the police investigation.
However, no request was made by the minor’s attorney. “They clarified and gave a response – explained the lawyer Gaetano Della Valle, defender of one of the three -. There is a different position from the others at the moment. It is clear that in situations like this there is a rebound game. They are aware – he added – of what they have done and are very sorry and devastated”.
Apart from the images from the camera, the responsibilities of the five boys were also affected by the wiretapping at the police station at the end of last October. “Bro, that’s what I do,” said the 18 year old teenager while imitating a slashing movement. “If they look at the camera and see how much I beat him,” said one of the minors. And again: “I don’t know if you can see the video when we scan it.”
