Hertha BSC won against Eintracht Braunschweig and remains the best team in the second division. The Berlin team had a bad win, but once again still didn’t concede a single goal. Dynamo Dresden celebrates an important away win. A look at the second league.
Hertha BSC continued its comeback in the second league with a fourth consecutive league win. Coach Stefan Leitl’s team beat Eintracht Braunschweig hard at home at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium 1-0 (0-0) and jumped to fourth place at least for the night.
It was Hertha’s fifth competitive win in a row – something they have not achieved in a season since 2001. In contrast, Lower Saxony lost for the fourth time in a row and are deep in the relegation battle. In front of 42,895 spectators, Marten Winkler scored Hertha’s winning goal (56th minute).
Both fans protested in the first twelve minutes of the match against the security measures planned by politicians in German stadiums and stopped singing.
Just before the break, Christian Conteh took the lead in Lower Saxony, which is normal. He managed to beat Marton Dardai, but his shot went wide from a narrow angle (45’+1).
Then Winkler performed better than in the first half. After another cross from Reese, the 23-year-old headed the ball.
VfL Bochum – Dinamo Dresden 1:2
With their first win in three months, Dynamo Dresden left the immediate relegation zone and halted VfL Bochum’s fortunes. The Saxons won 2-1 (2-0) at the Revierclub and celebrated their second win of the season, their first after eight league games and jumped to 16th position. Instead, the hosts suffered their first defeat after ten points from five games under new coach Uwe Rösler.
Alexander Rossipal took advantage of VfL’s defensive sloppiness and scored 1-0 for the visitors in the 25th minute. Vincent Vermeij (45+1) then chipped the ball into the net after a counter-attack before halftime to make it 2-0 to the visitors who were in a good mood.
Bochum managed to score the next goal after less than an hour through Cajetan Lenz (58) and increased the pace. Poor VfL professional Francis Onyeka shoots a penalty kick on the side of goal (76). The hosts were no longer enough to equalize.
