Alone against everyone. Lawmaker Harold Huwart will vote on the state budget on the night of Friday to Saturday, and could be the only lawmaker in the Assembly to do so, in a manner unprecedented under the Fifth Republic, he announced to AFP. “I will vote for it. I want a budget for France. I don’t understand by what logic you managed to get a majority on every article and a unanimous vote on the text (…) This has never happened, never happened before. Fortunately, mockery does not kill, we would have had 577 regrettable deaths”clearly a representative of Liot’s centrist group (Libertés, independents, foreigners and territories). Harold Huwart said he was not aware of any other MP who had decided to emulate him in this approach.
The hearing of the Finance Bill (PLF), which is way behind schedule in the Assembly, must be stopped before midnight on Sunday. A vote on the entire text is out of the question, but lawmakers should at least vote on the first section, dedicated to revenue, by the weekend. So, unless there is a big surprise, reject it unanimously.
In fact, at the moment, no political group, even among the “central bloc”, plans to vote in favor of it “the insincerity of certain actions taken”. In this scenario, it would be the government’s initial version that would be passed to the Senate, and any amendments the socialists would get would be thrown into the trash. The opposition must vote against the text. In unprecedented fashion, the budget was rejected by the DPR in 2024. But this was the first time that almost all MPs rejected or abstained.
