Spectacular gusts of wind blow icy past the bay of Purt de Sóller. Farther away in the Tramuntana Mountains, the debris swirled. On the highest peak, Puig Major (1,445 meters), there was still three centimeters of snow. And on the Ballermann there is a bit of bibbling instead of a cup. Early winter in Mallorca!
In the capital city of Palma de Mallorca or in Artà to the east of Germany’s favorite island, hail pelted the ground on Friday. Strong gusts of wind announced a storm along the northwest coast winter onwards, only receding below the artist city of Deja. Spain’s weather agency issued a warning for storms and high waves.
Palma on Friday: wet and cold with sleet and rain
Cold storm brings rain. Up to 600 meters it falls like snow. Often the white splendor immediately melts away. At temperatures as low as -4 degrees Celsius, some highlands in the Tramuntana Mountains disappear (for a short time) under a blanket of snow.
The climbing destination Castell d’Alaró, which is popular with tourists, and the Red Lightning train station, the historic train line between Palma and Sóller, in Bunyola have now also been painted white.
Mallorca’s weather is still changeable
Winter weather will remain for Mallorcans on Saturday. In the mountains it can get very cold again. A brief improvement in the weather is expected on Sunday. The sun shines down to 20 degrees in some places. But further rain will reach the Mediterranean island on Tuesday.
