Dynamo Dresden creates Bochum miracle | sport

Dynamo Dresden actually had no chance in Bochum. However, the promoted team took advantage of this and surprisingly won 2-1 at VfL.

“If you don’t give yourself credit in a lot of previous games, that’s good,” coach Thomas Stamm breathed a sigh of relief.

But what a crazy night! Even the installation of Stamm caused general astonishment. He left out top scorer Christoph Daferner and brought on Vincent Vermeij instead.

Crazy: Stamm also helped youngster Friedrich Müller (19) make his professional debut. He was given preference in central defense over the experienced Lars Bünning. Just to understand: Müller has played with the U23 team in the state league against Tanne Thalheim or Lipsia Eutritzsch so far this season.

What happened in the first half at the Ruhrstadion was at least as surprising as the line-up. After brief pressure from Bochum, Dresden took command. The defense held, Bubi Müller believed – and Vermeij scored.

His debut goal for SGD just before the break was a 2-0 draw, as Alexander Rossipal had earlier taken the lead. Conclusion from the break: Stamm, under pressure and criticized after nine games without a win, has done everything right.

However, after great astonishment, a great shock was announced. The second 45 minutes was a stark contrast to the brave performance of the first half. Bochum put pressure, Dynamo immediately chased them.

When VfL scored through Lenz to make it 1-2 (58′), most of the 2,500 Dynamo fans were probably not expecting anything good. And when confident goalkeeper Lennart Grill gave away a penalty after a bad mistake, everything seemed to be business as usual.

But firstly, things turn out differently, and secondly, than you thought. Bochum’s Onyeka actually took the penalty next to goal – and Dynamo ultimately got lucky and somehow held on to their precious lead with all their might as time went on.

Victory is only 61 kilometers from Uerdingen

goal scorer Vincent Vermeijwhose outside instep attack was almost a work of art: “Three very important points. We’ve had enough bad luck in the last few weeks. This time we managed to do it despite all the problems.”

And very caring Dresden Dynamo especially in Bochum for a big surprise, maybe even a small miracle. And it’s only 61 kilometers from Krefeld. The Black and Yellows were eliminated from the European Cup in the “Grotenburg Miracle” in 1986 after a 7-3 defeat against Bayer Uerdingen that still hurts to this day.

39 years later, victory in the Ruhr area could be a crucial turning point in the fight for survival in the second division. And perhaps also a very small satisfaction at Uerdingen’s disgrace…
