The Mayor of Béziers, Robert Ménard, stated to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Friday 21 November, as ” very delighted “ for the support of the Les Républicains party in the next municipal elections and the campaign for a “unity of rights” without realizing it at this stage “what does the RN want to do”.
“I am happy with this support, but there will be no party logo (about campaign materials)the same way we didn’t include anything in 2020 »said Mr. Ménard, his potential successor for a third term. In 2014, he was elected with the support of the National Front.
During the investiture committee that took place on Tuesday, Republicans gave their support to about thirty candidates from the same party “political family” in the 2026 municipal elections, including Nicola Sarkozy’s son Louis in Menton.
“Amazing Mayor”
LR boss and former Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau predicted, Wednesday on Europe 1/CNews, that Mr Ménard was “amazing mayor”. “We invested him as mayor of Béziers” (…) “very definite with RN candidates facing it”he explained.
The mayor of Béziers is hopeful “unity of rights” for city elections. “Unlike others, I did it in Béziers (…) I work with the elected representatives of the National Rally who make up the majority, as do LR elected officials”.
Previously close to far-right figures Marine Le Pen and Eric Zemmour, the councilor said he had no idea “what does the RN want to do”. “He will do what he wants. I have differences of opinion with various parties at national level, I am closer to some parties than others”he added.
