Dior dresses, Paolo Fresu music, ashes scattered in the seas of Venice. With irony and lightness Ornella Vanoni, who died on November 21 at the age of 91, described her funeral to Fabio Fazio like this in an episode of Che tempo che fa in 2023. “Now I choose the dress, the coffin must be cheap because it has to be burned,” said the singer, as if recalling a video reposted on X by the profile @grande_flagello.
Ornella spoke about her funeral: “I have the dress, it’s from Dior. The coffin must be cheap because I want to be burned. Then throw me in the sea, maybe in Venice”

“Then throw me into the sea, it’s up to you… I want Venice, do as you like. I have the dress, it’s from Dior. Then I ask Paolo Fresu to play at the funeral,” said the singer. “But where can we find someone like that? Why are we discussing this topic?”, asked Fazio. “We’re close there,” was the reply.
The singer, in an interview given in September 2024 to Corriere della Sera on the occasion of his ninetieth birthday, asked to be remembered with a flower bed.
“They dedicated the Lyric Theater to Gaber, the two Piccolo offices to Strehler and Grassi, the Palazzina Liberty to Fo and Rame, the Studio to Melato. For me there is nothing left. This is why I appeal to Mayor Sala: dedicate the flower bed in the center to me“, the words of the artist. The only condition: “I want him to live. Now. ‘Ornella Vanoni’s flower bed, looked after by her’. I will take care of it myself. I will plant flowers and tomatoes”. In Fazio’s living room in Che Tempo Che Fa he repeats his concept: “They give everything when they die, if they did it when they were alive, a person would be happier”.
