Low carbon maritime connection with sailboats – Libération

Food, housing, energy, integration… A look back at the main themes discussed so far from the Global SSE Forum which was held at the end of October in Bordeaux.

To travel by ferry to Corsica, expect 219 kilograms of CO2 per passenger compared to 12 kilograms on one of Sailcoop’s boats. Wind, just wind to move: the idea is not innovative; The aim is to make sailboats a means of transportation for the general public, as the cooperative has dreamed of since 2021. If the launch of the project made administrative and legislative difficulties difficult, Sailcoop is now launching in clearer weather. The crossing attracts more and more tourists who are attracted by its ecological dimension and a more enjoyable navigation experience than ferry travel.

The cooperative managed to continue the connection between Saint-Raphaël (Var) and Corsica, using two 15 meter long sailboats. Navigation is about twenty hours with a night in bed and sunrise over the fortress of Calvi (Haute-Corse). Two thousand passengers tried the formula last summer.

Based in Vannes (Morbihan), in Brittany, Sailcoop established itself in the region in 2024 by launching regular connections to the Glénan archipelago using catamarans designed for passenger transport. Baptized isabelle, referring to her godmother Isabelle Autiss
