Things didn’t go smoothly on the capital’s roads and trains at the weekend. There are threats of disruption and restrictions across the city.

Berlin drivers will have to be patient in many places over the weekend from November 21 to 22. The traffic information center warned of a number of restrictions.

In Friedrichshain, Boxhagener Straße will be closed from Saturday morning. The cause is track construction work near Wismarplatz which will last until mid-December. Drivers should avoid Krossener Straße and Gryphiusstraße.

Rummelsburg is also affected: Marktstrasse will remain closed between Schreiberhauerstrasse and Türschmidtstrasse until mid-December. Starting Sunday, the Köpenicker Chaussee near the Klingenberg thermal power plant will also be narrowed to one lane each.

The Uber Arena in Friedrichshain attracts many visitors due to concerts on Saturdays starting at 6pm. and on Sundays from 8 p.m. There is a risk of traffic jams around Mühlenstrasse, Warschauer Strasse, Oberbaumbrücke and Stralauer Allee.

Football fans flock to the An der Alten Försterei stadium in Köpenick on Saturday. Starting at 18.30, traffic around An der Wuhlheide, Spindlersfelder Straße and Bahnhofstraße stops. Transportation experts recommend traveling by bus and train.

Other crowd-pullers include sporting events at the Velodrome in Prenzlauer Berg (Saturday, 18:30) and Max-Schmeling-Halle (Sunday, 15:00). Lack of parking space at both locations.

Demonstrations further worsened the situation. On Saturday, demonstrations will take place through Neukölln and Kreuzberg (13.45 to 18.00), from Pankow to French Buchholz (11.00 to 16.00) and from Rummelsburg to Fennpfuhl (14.00 to 22.00).

There are also local transportation restrictions. From 04.00 Saturday until 1 December, tram line 21 will only operate with replacement buses between Bersarinplatz and Hegemeisterweg. S1 will replace its trains between Wannsee and Botanical Garden with buses from 7am Saturday to Monday morning. On Sunday evenings, the S3 between Westkreuz and Spandau only runs every 20 minutes.
