Pop star Howard Carpendale has published a chapter in his autobiography that he kept quiet for decades.
According to “Bild”, the 79-year-old singer explained in the book “Unexpected” how he was molested by an acquaintance of his parents when he was ten years old in his native South Africa.
Therefore, a sailor who was visiting the family asked the parents if he could take the child to the cinema. On the way home, the man stopped at a park, sat on a bench with Carpendale and grabbed her knee, then trailed her leg “higher and higher,” according to the citation. The boy froze and didn’t know how to react.
“He could have killed me”
According to Carpendale, it was not just an incident. The man appeared twice more and took her to the park again before he suddenly stopped appearing.
But his parents remained silent, as the singer wrote. To this day he doesn’t understand why they let him go with his friend. According to “Bild,” the book says that this man “could have done something else” to her, “he could have killed me.”
Carpendale, who has been one of the voices of German-language hits for decades, looks back on his life and career in “Unexpected.” In addition to the well-known stations, he also describes personal breaks and previously unknown experiences that, by his own admission, continue to shape who he is today. The book is scheduled to be published on Wednesday.
