Leading candidate Daniela Schmitt speaks at the Rhineland-Pfalz party conference FDP calls for a rethink of education policy. Children and young people must once again be able to rely on the fact that they leave school well equipped for training or studies, he told some 190 delegates. In Frankenthal, the party wants to adopt its program for the upcoming state elections.
More specialized knowledge should be taught in schools, Schmitt said. Therefore, the Liberals wanted to support the creation of “craft high schools” and mandatory apprenticeships and visits to craft fields. Apart from education, the party’s focus is economic development, transportation, health and domestic security. The top candidate and state chairman received applause for his speech.
In the survey less than five percent
The party currently has 6 of the 101 representatives in the state parliament in Mainz. FDP has been around since 2016 Rheinland-Pfalz involved in the traffic light coalition in government. By the March 22 election, the Liberals will have to worry about returning to state parliament – in recent surveys the party has been well below five per cent.
