In one of the world’s most meat-consuming countries (127 kilograms per inhabitant per year, all meat combined, compared with 84 kilograms in France), rising beef prices have not gone unnoticed. In fact, Americans have to pay more for steak.
In September, a pound (nearly 500 grams) of beef cost about $6.33 (or about 5.50 euros) across the Atlantic, an increase of 13.5% on year, according to US government data. This trend appears to be sustainable, and some analysts and industrialists even anticipate a pound of beef costing 10 dollars (8.70 euros) next year.
