Actress Annette Frier (“Danni Lowinski”) sees good things about menopause. “There are several things I like about menopause. Even crisis situations. I like crises because I believe that they often make pre-existing but untreated problems visible,” the 51-year-old told the German Press Agency.
For example, the well-known estrogen deficiency. “Among other things, estrogen ensures that we women are friendly and use a lot of energy to make things work. This makes a lot of sense at certain stages of life,” explains Frier. As a young mother, she felt it made sense to meet her own needs in order to provide for her children well.
Series with autobiographical features
“But it’s also our job – later in life – to let kids go at some point so they can let themselves go,” Frier said. Your children are in this phase now. “And now – perhaps due to a lack of estrogen – I am no longer interested in making sure everything goes smoothly.” The focus shifted. “Changing, being more honest here and there, is good,” he said.
The Cologne actress discussed the topic intensively and filmed a comedy series on it. In “Frier and Fifty – At the End of My Days” she plays herself – Annette Frier. Since the offer of the role left much to be desired, the serial freezer decided to create his own series – about women going through menopause. The first episode can be watched on Monday (24 November 2025, 22.15, already in advance on Joyn) on Saturday 1. The first discussion was very positive.
“I’m not a menopause activist,” Frier said when asked why she created the series. “But you get caught up in certain things in life. That’s what happened to me when I went through menopause.”
She explains that she hasn’t felt any radical change since she went to drama school. “And then I thought: If this concerns me so much, maybe it means something to other people too.” Then he started reading about the topic.
