A new contract for metal workers has been signed, with increases that will reach 205 euros per month in four years

A new national collective agreement for metalworkers has been signed, which concerns more than one and a half million workers: the agreement provides for an average salary increase of 205.32 euros gross per month, spread over four years. The agreement was concluded after four consecutive days of final negotiations between representatives of Federmeccanica and Assistal, which brought together companies in the sector, and the FIOM CGIL, FIM CISL and UILM unions. The contract expires in June 2024 and its extension has been subject to lengthy negotiations, lasting 17 months, with strikes and demonstrations by workers.

The increase is divided into four stages: the first stage of around 28 euros (for the middle level) was paid in June 2025, the next stage will start on 1 June 2026 and is worth around 53 euros, and the total amount will be reached in the next two years. The increase was 9.64 percent, higher than the current estimated inflation rate (7.2 percent). The new contract also provides some guarantees regarding the limitation of precarious work and greater protection in the field of work safety.
