Rome, November 23 (Adnkronos) – “November 23 remains a very important date in the collective memory of this country. In 1980, in a few seconds, the Irpinia earthquake shocked lives, regions and communities, leaving behind thousands of victims and a legacy that we still feel today. Remembering does not mean repeating the chronicle of suffering, but restoring the dignity of a history made up of people, sacrifices, materials and internal reconstruction. This is a civic duty. From that tragedy has given birth to a new consciousness, modern Civil Protection, a different relationship between States and fragile areas”. Toni Ricciardi, deputy chairman of the Democratic Party in the DPR, wrote this in his notes.
“Today – he underlined – we renew memories, which sooner or later have to be shared, with respect for the victims and those who, over the years, have turned wounds into responsibility and commitment. Irpinia reminds us that prevention and care of the territory are not slogans, but rather everyday choices that build the future. 45 years after that November 23, memories remain a legacy that must be preserved and passed on”, concluded Ricciardi.
