The gala atmosphere that was experienced at the La Cartuja stadium in Seville was enriched by the news of the renewal of Isco by Betis. A large banner at the back of the Betic Colosseum shortly before the start of the clash against Girona confirmed what had been an open secret. Isco will be green and white until at least 2028, given that his contract expires in 2027. The celebration before the clash against the Catalan team was impressive. Isco will become the highest paid of the green and whites together with Antony and Lo Celso. The person who earns the most is coach Manuel Pellegrini, whose contract expires in 2026 and is also about to renew his stay on the Andalusian bench.
Isco and Betis have created a truly special relationship. The attacking midfielder, who won, for example, five Champions Leagues in Madrid after being a young star at Málaga and failing at Sevilla, has found his place in the world at the green and white club. Isco suffered his second serious injury with Betis last August and after a tough recovery process he was already called up for this duel against Girona. Already in May 2024 he suffered another serious injury which prevented him from playing in the Euro Cup won by Spain in Germany. Now, after the renewal, he wants to regain his place in the national team and have the chance to play in the 2026 World Cup.
Isco played a total of 69 competitive matches for Betis, scoring 21 goals and distributing 18 assists in two seasons in which the Andalusian team achieved continental qualification and reached the first European final in the club’s history, the Conference League, which Betis lost 5-1 last May against Chelsea.
