Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli. These are the two names that made it possible for Italy to win the Davis Cup in a fully controlled Round of 8 between Friday and Sunday. This final went completely their way with wins first against Carreno Busta and second against Munar. Spain does not exist.
Some would certainly say that Italy, without Sinner or Musetti, could be taken over. Some are eyeing this 2025 Davis Cup and hoping to topple Transalpines, the double winner. But starting Friday, Austria will have to pay a heavy price. Rodionov and Misolic couldn’t do anything in the singles, and Filippo Volandri’s Italy were knocked out in the semifinals.
Cobolli ignites Bologna
Facing the Blues’ goalscorer, the result was the same. Zizou Bergs, Raphaël Collignon and the Belgian suffer from the law of the Cobolli-Berrettini duo. And in the final? Repeatedly. Pablo Carreno Busta lost badly against Berrettini (6-3, 6-4). While Jaume Munar believed it after winning the first set, Flavio Cobolli raised his level and pushed Bologna to lift their third Davis Cup in a row (1-6, 7-6, 7-5).
With this new title, Squadra Azzura definitively confirms its superiority in the Davis Cup. Incredible density of players, real collective spirit and most importantly the trophy. The adage is respected, but in 2026, never three without four?
