This match was a tough one – and was overshadowed by a huge disappointment at the end!
In a fast-paced top-flight game, Darmstadt won in 2nd league against Fürth 4:2, temporarily jumping to third place.
PICTURE revealed: Secret details in Lennart Karl’s contract
The Lilies took the lead through Hornby (11), but Fürths Futkeu (38, 52) turned the game around with his third brace of the season. Florian Kohfeldt’s team had to catch up, but equalized just six minutes later through top striker Isac Lidberg.
But: In the chaos of the previous corner, after a header from Corredor, the ball found its way to Hornby, who, judging by the TV picture, appeared to be offside. The Scotsman’s powerful cross hit his attacking partner Lidberg and from there into the goal – 2:2 (58th).
Referee Dr. Max Burda had at least short-term contact with video referee Arne Aarnink. The goal was said to have been checked for a possible foul, but not for offside. The goal counted – the start of Lilien’s comeback, crowned by Hornby (63) and Papela (78).
After the match, Sky expert Thorsten Mattuschka explained. The former second division star said Burda and his team admitted they did not see an offside position ahead of the 2-2 draw. Meaning: The strokes are irregular!
Coach Fürth Kleine explained at a press conference: “I think this is the first time that VAR is invisible. If you see it like that, it means half a meter offside. It was a decisive scene in the game. So it’s very, very bitter.”
And further: “Even if an apology had been accepted, it was appropriate to our situation and deeply hurtful.”
While Kohfeldt’s team remains unbeaten at home (4 wins, 3 losses), Fürth has the 2nd worst defense in the league in 31 years with 34 goals conceded after 13 matchdays! In the 1994/95 season, FSV Frankfurt conceded 39 goals in the first 13 matches and was eventually relegated with 103 goals conceded (!).
But in the end (again) we are just talking about a scene that caused a lot of anger…
