Laschet on Miosga: Why Europe doesn’t have Putin’s strategy | policy

Moment of truth! Former chancellor candidate Armin Laschet (64, CDU) warned Caren Miosga (56) about the worrying weakness in Europe towards the warmongering Putin. In the end, what matters is the survival of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj (47).

Bitter accusations from Armin Laschet

Laschet’s highly critical assessment of the new US peace plan: “Europe only acts to prevent the worst. We don’t talk to Russia either. If we have an idea, we tell America so they can introduce it. But we ourselves are not active players. There is no strategy!”

Because, like that Armin Laschet bitter accusation: “In the last ten years we have done too little in terms of our own military power. I remember my federal election campaign in 2021. If you just said that we want to reach the two percent target (NATO defense spending, editor’s note), there were posters from the SPD and the Green Party: No! Better money for education and this and that! The invasion happened in February 2022, then everyone completely changed their position. Now the Green Party is completely crazy about tanks and many other things.”

Laschet’s frightening analysis: “The Bundeswehr is making a lot of effort so that we might be able to emerge with this strength in five or ten years. We cannot do it today because we have failed to make ourselves strong in the last ten years and perhaps even more years. If America goes out now, we Europeans, no matter how arrogantly we talk about it, cannot replace it now. That is the reality we face today!”

Security experts warn: end the illusion!

Security expert Claudia Major (49) is also concerned. He said: “The reason why Europe has been quiet is because we lack resources. Now Europe’s lack of investment in the military sector over the last ten years is a form of revenge. Russia says its long-term force reduction strategy is working. From Russia’s point of view, there is currently no reason to stop this war.”

Warned the expert: “Russia always tries to reach negotiations on things that cannot be achieved militarily. And right now Europe and America are at odds. From Russia’s point of view, this is a quite pleasant situation.” He explained: “You have to dispel the illusion you sometimes have in the German debate that Russia wants to end this war. Russia’s theory of victory is a long-term war of attrition based on the belief that Ukraine is more important for Russia than it is for us. Unfortunately, this plan worked for Russia.”

The expert’s predictions are worrying: “If the plan is implemented in this way, it will ultimately lead to a lull in fighting that will allow Russia to regenerate its armed forces at any time. We have to think about how Ukraine, which has less territory and limited armed forces, can be protected!”

Will Zelenskyj run for president of Ukraine again?

BILD vice president Paul Ronzheimer (40) said: “And how dangerous this is for us, for Europe, with the increasingly powerful Russian army. How can fleeing Ukrainians return if they don’t know if there will be another war in a year or two?” Ronzheimer summed up Zelenskyj’s chances after the corruption scandal in Kiev: “I can’t imagine he will run for president again.” Caren Miosga: “Will he be re-elected?” Ronzheimer: “I don’t think so.”
