That Weather has seen a strong turnaround in the southwest region, but conditions on the roads remained mostly calm overnight and early morning despite warnings of icy lightning and icy areas. “The black ice chaos did not occur,” said a spokesman for Freiburg police headquarters. “That’s what the weather is like right now, and keeping that in mind, everything went as expected.”

There were almost no operations in the Stuttgart and Tübingen areas, despite official storm warnings regarding extreme black ice. “We only had three black ice accidents all night,” said a spokesman for police headquarters in Reutlingen. Several black ice accidents on the A7 in the Heidenheim district ended mildly on Sunday evening.

However, one person died in an accident on the A81 near Geisingen (Tuttlingen district). It remains unclear whether black ice was the cause of the crash. Further details were initially unknown.

“Here in the south, this kind of weather doesn’t surprise us.”

The German Weather Service (DWD) forecast black ice south of the Danube and in the Alb in Baden-Württemberg from Sunday evening. A particular risk of black ice is expected in the east and southeast from Stuttgart and Tübingen to the Allgäu. Meteorologists have warned that hail lightning is also possible. Later the soil temperature will rise and this will provide a safe situation.
