Milan, November 24 (askanews) – “I brought him an icon of Jesus Christ because the last words he said to me were ‘I’m in love with Jesus’, I’m not a believer, he told me, ‘I’m quite an atheist, he was a little angry with God, he told me ‘let’s try with God’ you never know (quote from Vanoni’s song “Tomorrow is another day”, ed.). Then he told me but I met an evangelical nun who made me read the Gospel and I fell in love. Now I brought him an icon of Jesus for his children.” So said Giovanni Climaco Mapelli, priest of the Ukrainian-Russian Orthodox Church, at Ornella Vanoni’s funeral home in the Piccolo Teatro Grassi.
“I am from the oriental Greek church, in fact we have two Greek fathers, a Russian and a Ukrainian who currently do not get along very well. Our bishops are half Russian and half Ukrainian and I make a plea here before him who is a loving woman, that this shameful war should stop, which is a war between brothers who love the same Christ”, added the priest who will participate in the funeral celebrations in San Marco.
