Forty-three years after the anti-Semitic attack on the Rue des Rosiers in Paris, the Paris Court of Appeal rejected the defendants’ appeal and confirmed that the case will be tried by a special judge, said Mr Romain Ruiz, the main defendant’s lawyer, on Monday.
This decision is not surprising because the prosecutor’s office had requested in the hearing of this appeal, at the end of October, confirmation of a referral to a special judge in Paris for the attacks that left six people dead in Paris in 1982.
Two suspects have been charged in France, including Abou Zayed, the main suspect in the hands of the court, today turned 67 years old.
In addition to this Norwegian of Palestinian origin, who is thought to be one of the shooters and has been detained in France since 2020, another person indicted, Hazza Taha, born in the West Bank, currently 65 years old, was suspected of having a concealed weapon at the time.

The two were behind the appeal against the referral order. Four other suspects remain on long-standing arrest warrants.
The attack was attributed to the Abu Nidal group
The attack was attributed to the Fatah Revolutionary Council (Fatah-CR) led by Abu Nidal, a Palestinian dissident group from the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
On August 9, 1982, six people were killed and 22 injured in the Jewish Marais district of Paris, in a grenade explosion at Jo Goldenberg’s restaurant and then in shootings carried out by a commando of three to five people.
This case was characterized by many twists and turns. The most recent incident occurred in September, when Palestinian authorities announced the arrest of Hicham Harb, a Palestinian, suspected of being the mastermind of the attack.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas recently promised Le Figaro’s speedy extradition, “France’s recognition of the State of Palestine has created the appropriate framework for this French request”.
