Oklahoma City – Night shift, fake 100 dollar bills – and suddenly it was a matter of life and death: Stephanie Dilyard (25) was working alone in a mini supermarket in Oklahoma City when a man came to buy various snacks. When the cashier realizes that the banknotes are fake, a scene like an action movie occurs!
The customer, Kenneth Thompson, was terrified. The 59-year-old man screamed, threw items across the shop, grabbed the young mother by the neck and threatened to kill her. “He wants to strangle me!” Stephanie then told US channel “Fox 25”. “I was so scared.”
The attack occurred in one of the branches of the 7-Eleven network (symbolic photo)
In a panic, he reached for his own gun, which he always carried for safety – and pulled the trigger. A bullet hit the attacker in the stomach. He stumbled out of the store, called 911 himself and ended up in the hospital. That POLICE confirmed: Stephanie Dilyard acted in self-defense. No charges have been filed against the mother, who believes her life is in danger.
That’s why the cashier lost his job
However, his act of self-defense was not without consequences. Just a few days later, Stephanie got a call from HR – termination! Reason: Violation of company guidelines – US supermarket chain 7-Eleven implemented a strict ban on weapons in the workplace. “I was told that I should defend myself with things from the shop,” said the stunned 25-year-old. And later: “I just want to go home to my kids.”
That’s how mom justified herself
Dilyard provided insight into his life on a GoFundMe donation page. He works at the same 7-Eleven every night starting at 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. for more than two years. At home he looks after their three-year-old child while his girlfriend works in construction. On average, he only sleeps about three hours per day. “I never thought I would be in a situation like this,” Dilyard wrote. “In a few seconds I had to decide: either I lost my life or I lost my job.”
The attacker survived and now faces charges Assault, threats and forgery accused. Stephanie Dilyard found herself without a job. “I would do it again,” he said. “It’s better to be fired than to die.”
