Love, memory, distance, rebirth, and consciousness are the themes “Rain that never falls” new album by Sergio Cammariere is out on November 28th and takes place three years after his previous recording project. “For me this album is an invitation to pause, to breathe, to listen – he said during a presentation to the Roman press – This album does not tell extraordinary stories, but the stories that we all live: the waiting, the nostalgia, the need to feel alive, a love that changes shape but doesn’t disappear. I hope each of you can find a piece of yourself in these songs. I hope this ‘rain that never falls’ can, in some way, touch you, act as a mirror, or perhaps just accompany you along your journey.”
“The piano is my home, the center from which everything begins – says Cammariere – The strings move around it, the subtle rhythms, the gentle sound that never wants to cover the sound, but accompany it. There are more intimate and reflective songs, such as ‘The long wait’ or ‘Certe storie return’, which arise from the need to give a name to fragility.. There are others that are brighter, for example ‘Secret love’ or ‘Something I left behind’, who look for the light parts that encourage us to move forward. And then there was ‘The river is receding’inspired by Gibran’s poetry which tells the journey of existence through the image of a river flowing towards the sea.”
“Nowadays records don’t sell, we know that. – he continued – Our only possibility is to do a live concert and hug our audience again. We don’t want to hold concerts in large venues, we are happy with thousands of people coming in the evening. Knowing that out of 35 concerts this year, 35,000 people listened to my music and paid for tickets is something that makes us feel good.”
Then the discussion turned to the Sanremo Festival: “When I took part in 2003 we were 18 people, today the competing artists are 28-30 years old. This means maybe there is less attention to listen and more performances, more entertainment.”
The singer-songwriter was the protagonist of the 2003 edition with ‘Everything a man’ and underlines: “In the last twenty years the selection criteria have changed completely. In the digital era, the Festival has become a fundamental show. However, the exponential increase in the number of participants, in my opinion, comes at a cost. Maybe there are too many artists. I remember the last time I was in Sanremo as a guest, with Nina Zilli in 2019, we went to a quarter past one in the morning“.
Cammariere recalls with pleasure his participation, which was eagerly desired by then artistic director Pippo Baudo. “Sanremo is different. The song ‘Everything a man is is a great adventure that ends very well,’ touches everyone’s heart. But Sanremo is always Sanremo, the most important event in our country and taking part in it is a great responsibility.”
