Milan, November 24 (askanews) – The most disruptive company in contemporary theater returns to Italy. On Friday November 28 at the Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan, the premiere of “Sons: ser o no ser” kicked off, a new show by La Fura Dels Baus, an established Catalan contemporary theater company. But why is the show so interesting now?
Carlus Padrissa, director, artistic director and founder of La Fura: “‘Sons: ser o no ser’ or ‘Voices, to be or not to be’ of La Fura speaks directly about the human attitude of being or not being. To be means to say no to genocide, to live with what is happening in the world, it means to be sensitive to this, it means to be proactive. Otherwise, it is like being dead, it means being on the phone, with sounds, sounds, sounds, especially sounds, you spend your life looking for films, or series, or responding to sentences that don’t exist, that don’t say nothing, right?
A creation designed and built for the venue, a work that blurs the boundaries between scene and reality. The spectator does not sit or watch: standing, immersed in the open and living space, he becomes part of the dramaturgy, the living body of a collective ritual that unites art, technology, sound and material in one profound poetic act, to be experienced directly.
“Theatre is something, an attitude in life, in living life, in saying no, in being strong. It is theater that takes you inside and makes you proactive, and being proactive is very important,” said the director.
The work, inspired by William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, will be performed from November 28 to December 14, 2025 in a site-specific installation that will completely transform Fabbrica del Vapore’s spaces, offering the public a sensory and engaging experience outside the box.
