On Monday, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a disputed NGO set up by Israel to control the distribution of food and humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, announced the end of its mission, after ceasing its activities last month following a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
GHF is a non-governmental organization founded at Israel’s instigation to replace a food distribution network that for years consisted of around 200 NGOs present in the Gaza Strip. The aim of this decision is to shift management of humanitarian aid away from Hamas, which controls every aspect of Palestinian life in Gaza. Since the GHF began operating in May, food distribution has become extremely dangerous, creating the conditions for a series of massacres of Palestinian civilians by Israeli soldiers.
