On her YouTube channel “Gewitter im Kopf”, in French “Storm in the head”, sharing with her friend Tim Lehmann, German Jan Zimmerman comes close to mocking her daily life with Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS), which she nicknamed “Gisela”. The 27-year-old YouTuber, who was followed by more than two million subscribers, was found dead in his apartment in Königswinter, in the west of the country, German media outlet Bild reported.

“The victim’s body was found in his apartment on the evening of November 18. An investigation was opened and is now closed. The autopsy showed no traces of criminal activity,” a spokesperson for the Bonn (German) police told the German press.

“It’s great that people are so interested in this disease”

According to the German daily, there is currently no way to determine whether his illness played a role in his death. A neurological pathology of genetic origin, TS usually does not affect a person’s life expectancy, but is accompanied by abnormalities such as motor tics and vocalizations that can be tiring.

Under the last video on his YouTube channel, published four months ago, many fans saddened by the news left comments. During an interview with German magazine Stern in 2021, Jan Zimmerman said she found it “very exciting that people are so interested in this disease”.

According to Bild, Jan Zimmermann will receive a brain stimulator in 2022 to reduce his tics. “Since Jan’s successful brain surgery, Tourette’s syndrome has been successfully treated,” the two friends said in a YouTube statement.
