The season of Advent has begun – and also the season for bargain hunters: This week is Black Friday. But the hype was not well received everywhere, as seen in Bremen.
Messages were popping up everywhere and bargain day reminders were being sent. Black Friday is starting to show its shadow ahead. But retailers from Bremen want to boycott this and instead have other ideas, said Viktoria Theoharova from the shop “Huddy” and Anna Dickreuter from “Tadellos” on social media. “We have absolutely no interest in Black Friday,” said two businesswomen from the Hanseatic city in this context.
Instead, they decided to host a “colorful week,” they reported. That is, the two women wanted to show their audience what “cool little shops” and “nice restaurants” are like in Bremen. You’ll also want to use this week to inspire gift ideas.
The women entrepreneurs received a lot of positive feedback. For example, one post read, “You spoke from my heart. I was so happy to be there too.” Another user was enthusiastic and wrote in Low German “Schiet op schwatten freidag.” Others talked about a “huge campaign” and were excited to see what tips would come up.
Meanwhile, there are warnings about the growing attention to Black Friday or “Black Week”: According to a Schufa survey, one in four Germans has been a victim of digital fraud – and the risk of being deceived by fake shops increases in the run-up to Black Friday.
Many retailers have mixed feelings about Black Friday. According to Axel Augustin from the Textile Shoe Leather Goods Trade Association, many companies sacrifice profits to offer attractive discounts. The association advised specialist retailers not to take part. Nevertheless, most of the major networks took part in this campaign. Read more about this here.
