Two men get into an argument at a restaurant, and the argument quickly becomes physical – and potentially life-threatening.

Bloody attack at a restaurant in Lower Saxony: An employee reportedly hit his opponent in the head with a kitchen axe. Investigators are currently treating the weekend crimes as attempted murder. The attack was potentially life-threatening, police and prosecutors reported Monday.

The altercation between the two men occurred on Saturday at around 8:15 p.m. at a restaurant in Alsfeld. On one side stood a 41-year-old restaurant employee, and on the other side stood a 31-year-old employee who was visiting one of the apartments above the restaurant.

According to officers, the two initially argued, and soon it became a physical altercation. In the end, the 41 year old man is said to have used an ax as a weapon. The 31 year old player suffered bleeding wounds.

It is still unclear which ax the suspect allegedly used. However, when asked by t-online, public prosecutor Christina Wotschke emphasized: “Even with the blunt side, a blow to the head with an ax can be fatal.”

The victim was rushed to hospital but turned out to be very lucky. After outpatient treatment, the man can leave the clinic again.

Meanwhile, the alleged perpetrator was taken to a correctional facility. A judge ordered pre-trial detention on Sunday at the request of the public prosecutor because a flight risk could not be ruled out.
