The future legal framework for violence against women is “Ready” and includes 53 actions aimed at “better training, better detection, better prevention and better sanctions”said Delegate Minister for Gender Equality, Aurore Bergé in an interview with AFP, Monday 24 November.

Ahead of the international day to combat violence against women, she hopes this text, long requested by feminist associations and extended to violence against children, can be included on the parliamentary agenda. “as soon as possible”.

“The executioners should be afraid because right now they are not afraid, because the statute of limitations protects them, because anxiety about filing a complaint protects them, because anxiety about confrontation protects them, because anxiety about the length of legal treatment also protects them,” consider the minister.

Among the main measures, the criminal records of all professionals in contact with children should be checked systematically and annually, in a context characterized by reports of after-school sexual violence in Paris.

Regarding this question, he “No tolerance is necessary. We must extend control over their criminal records to all professionals who come into contact with children and whatever their status, whether they are civil servants, casual workers, interns, contract workers, precarious workers”underlines Aurore Bergé.

Another step: in the event of incest, to protect children, the bill would prohibit the right to visit the accused in the initial investigation and would prohibit any contact between the child and the accused.

Regarding support for victims, to encourage them to file complaints, the practice of confrontation will be limited and victims will be informed of their right to object, so as not to have to repeat their testimony. The victim will also be kept informed at every stage of the procedure regarding the perpetrator (early exit, relocation, etc.).

Lastly, the purchase of sexual acts performed remotely will be punished in the same way as the 2016 law, which created the offense of use of prostitution (client/consumer) and created aggravating human trafficking circumstances by specifically targeting the use of new technologies.
