Cuban authorities have arrested Martiño Ramos Soto in Havana, the teacher sentenced by the Court of Ourense to 13 and a half years in prison for abusing and raping a minor student, as confirmed by EFE on Monday.
Ramos Soto is one of the ten names claimed by the Spanish justice system whose localization and arrest are a priority for the Fugitives Section which, just this Monday, asked for the collaboration of citizens to collect possible clues.
Ramos Soto fled Spain in July, shortly before the Supreme Court made public the sentence that made the sentence of 13 years and six months’ imprisonment for these facts definitive. Police investigations revealed that Ramos, who was very active in the En Marea political movement, has since taken refuge in Cuba, a country with which Spain does not have an extradition agreement.
Ramos used his passport to leave Spain, taking advantage of the fact that a search and arrest warrant had not yet been issued for him. Police have described his departure from Spain as “very planned” and stress that he has the support of third parties on the Caribbean island.
