A former student of the Ozanam school in Limoges (Haute-Vienne), who claims to be a victim of sexual abuse, has filed an appeal against the State for “gross negligence” before the Limoges state administrative court, ICI Limousin learned, Monday 24 November 2025, from the reporter, confirming the information from Le Populaire du Center. He criticized the lack of control at the Ozanam school, where priests from the Bétharram congregation officiated, and also at the Notre-Dame-de-Bétharram (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) school, where the former student explained that he participated in a summer camp.

The reporter, Bertrand, admitted that he was a victim of this act when he was between 9 and 13 years old. He confirmed that while studying as an external student at Ozanam, the National Education Department did not do this. “Never” led “control” at the establishment. And according to him, this problem still exists today. “The state has not assumed its responsibilities and is still not assuming those responsibilities. So what I am asking is for the controls to be activated”he explained to ICI Limousin.

“The administrative judge will see if he can go back and consider that the state made a mistake when I went, along with the other victims, to the Ozanam school and to Bétharram”details of the complainant to ICI Limousin. Bertrand wants to emphasize that he does not take this approach “asking for money”but he wants to “that the judge considers the future of the children in these places”.

Bertrand and other former Ozanam students, who claimed to have been victims of physical and sexual violence at the institution, filed a complaint last May “crimes against humanity”. They were dismissed last July due to the statute of limitations facts. This decision has been confirmed at the appeal level, but the criminal aspect has not been closed since Bertrand filed an appeal. Failing that, he assured ICI Limousin that he was prepared to take the matter to the European Court of Human Rights.
