For the first time in the history of transplantation, a heart has been transported 1,600 kilometers without ever stopping beating. A medical and technological milestone was achieved at the Molinette hospital in Turin, where a 65-year-old man suffering from severe dilated cardiomyopathy received a new heart from Athena. The operation took place at the Heart and Lung Transplant Center of the City of Health and Science, coinciding with the fortieth anniversary of the first heart transplant performed in Italy.
