It’s like a mental process that allows you to choose what you want to remember. This is called selective memory, a disorder that PD suffers from. Of course, there are many justifications. One thing is most important: enthusiasm for victory, in Campania and Puglia, can get to your head and contribute to erasing the past. So once again it was he, the generous secretary of the Democratic Party, who wholeheartedly addressed these obstacles: “United we can win big, the political game is wide open.”
A complete loss of memory: the 2025 election dispute ends with three regions on the center-right (Veneto, Calabria, Marche) and the same number in the wide field (Campania, Puglia and Tuscany). A draw that could also be considered an intentional defeat, if we take into account the Aosta Valley, where the new majority in the Union Valdôtaine, the Democratic Party, left Forza Italia to make way for Forza Italia.
If we take Elly Schlein’s inauguration in the Nazarene (February 2023) as a unit of measurement, the balance is much more negative: 10 regions (Friuli Venezia Giulia, Molise, Trento, Abruzzo, Basilicata, Piedmont, Liguria, plus the last three regions) with a government majority and 6 (Sardinia, Umbria and Emilia Romagna, plus the last three regions) with a left wing.
The figure does not include two other regions won by the center-right, a week before the Democratic Party primaries: Lazio and Lombardy.
A series of failures that preserved important parts, such as heated debates and divisions in Basilicata and Molise. Oil almost scored in Liguria: governor Giovanni Toti ended up under house arrest and Andrea Orlando called a meeting in Genoa, with the clink of handcuffs “We will win the elections”. It ended with the coronation of Marco Bucci as governor.
The desire for revenge resurfaced in the summer, ahead of the Marche vote. Elly Schlein creates Ohio near Ancona: «This is the fateful region, our Giorgia will join you». Then the guarantee notice to candidate Matteo Ricci, Giuseppe Conte’s cold shoulder: it didn’t go well. It’s better to file quickly. The thankless task of bringing the left wing back to reality was undertaken by the manager of the Fratelli d’Italia organization, Giovanni Donzelli: «There was no shaking and pushing that a wide field always brings».
There are still many problems to be faced: starting from Roberto Fico’s success in Campania which legitimized Giuseppe Conte’s aspirations, in short we will meet in the gazebo. Then a new split emerged in the electoral law: the M5S wanted to change it, the Democratic Party entrenched in the existing law. However, at least for one night, on the left they sang: “let’s forget the past”
