Abascal after Peramato’s election as attorney general: “We must be very prepared”
The leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, refuses to grant a margin of confidence to the new state attorney general, Teresa Peramato, not so much because of her profile but because her appointment corresponds to the Government. In an interview on the program Public mirror of Antena 3, Santiago Abascal also avoided evaluating the professional career of Álvaro García Ortiz’s successor, arguing that the president of the government, “who is fleeing from justice and depriving Spaniards of the possibility of expressing themselves at the polls, will not take any decision, including this appointment, to put himself at risk. Frankly, I think we have to be very cautious.”
Abascal criticized the fact that the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, asked that the election of the new prosecutor have the approval of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) and recalled that its composition was agreed between popular and socialists. The Vox leader confirmed that his party will wait for the speech of the popular candidate for the presidency of the Valencian Community, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, this Thursday before deciding its vote. “We will listen to him carefully and, if in that investiture speech, out loud and in front of all Spaniards, the commitments that we want and that we have talked about in recent days are made, we will be able to support that investiture,” he underlined. For Abascal, a written pact like the one reached other times with the PP is no longer useful because “they tend to remain on empty paper. We prefer that through their mouths the commitments are made with light and stenographers in front of everyone. This will determine the meaning of our vote”, he insisted.
