BOLOGNA – Deadly accident this morning at around 08.45 via dell’Arcoveggio, at the intersection of via de Giovanni, in the Corticella area. Viola Mazzotti, 23 years oldCervia resident, was cycling when he was hit and killed by a truck working on a tram construction site. A total of 118 health workers tried to save the girl, but the trauma was too serious and she did not make it.
Firefighters, local police officers and carabinieri intervened at the scene. The heavy vehicle belonging to the company engaged in transportation at the tram construction site was driving along Via Arcoveggio from the center to the outskirts of the city. From initial inspection it appears that the bicycle was traveling on the same road in the same direction, in the bicycle lane which is located on the right side of the road.
Arriving at the Via De Giovanni intersection, the heavy vehicle turned right and collided with a cyclist who ended up under the rear axle of the vehicle.
Precedent
Other victims of the road and those affected are the most vulnerable road users, cyclists and pedestrians. On November 7 in Pieve di Cento Ilaria Zannarini, 18, died when she was hit at a pedestrian crossing. A few days earlier, Ettore Pausini, 78, died after being hit by a mountain bike along Stradelli Guelfi.
